Read the whole interview with Emily
Q: So, Emily, let’s start off easy. Tell us your name and where you’re from right to the camera.
A: My name is Emily Rappaport, and I’m actually from two miles down the road in Willow Park, Texas.
Q: Alright, so Emily, tell us what was going on that required surgery. Why’d you have to come here?
A: It’s kind of a long story, but whenever I was in seventh grade, I was told I needed braces, so I had braces for two years, got them off, went to another dentist, and they were like, “Oh, you have baby teeth,” and I was like, “Yeah, I wasn’t born with adult teeth.” So, I bit down on a little cotton swab that was this big, and my baby tooth was loose, and I got them extracted from another oral surgeon, but then I discovered Mrs. Dr. Kovach, who’s my dentist, and she was like, “Oh, my husband’s an oral surgeon,” and so then, I came in February and had my implants put in.
Q: Perfect. So you found out – was this your first surgery?
A: No.
Q: So, were you nervous at all?
A: No, not really. I just don’t really like needles, so the anesthesia part was kind of scary, but then once it was over, it was just plastic that was in my arm, so I was okay. But no one really likes needles.
Q: Tell us about your first time meeting everyone. So, tell us about the day you came in. You met the staff. How were they? How was your experience?
A: The staff was really nice. Taylor told me that I look like Jessica Black, and I don’t know who that is, but she was like, “Oh, that’s who you look like” and I was like, “Oh, okay” and so every time she saw me, she remembered who I was because I look like Jessica Black. I think once you have surgery here, everyone really knows who you are because everyone is around you that day, they see you, they’re like, “Hey, how are you doing?” and they just care about you.
Q: Alright, awesome. So we talked a little bit about the staff. How is Dr. Kovach? Can you explain him to somebody you’ve never met before? How would you describe him?
A: Dr. Kovach is very knowledgeable about what he’s talking about. He knows about the jaw and the teeth, and he knows the structure of your skull, the way that your jaw is supposed to sit, the way that your teeth are supposed to sit, the way they’re supposed to be aligned. He’s very knowledgeable.
Q: So for people who don’t know what a dental implant is, can you kind of explain what happened in your mouth?
A: Oh, the screws and everything? Oh, okay. so, Dr. Kovach, in surgery, he took two screws and placed them into my gums, which they go into my jaw — well, not really into my jaw, but they’re in my gums — and then there’s a top part of the crown, and it screws into the bottom part, so basically, it’s a fake tooth, but I have two of them.
Q: So, how did the surgery go? How’s it feel afterward?
A: I’m pretty sure that it went well because I didn’t really remember it, but afterward, it didn’t hurt that bad. I had minor swelling; I didn’t really have any major swelling, but all in all, it was pretty easy. It wasn’t too difficult, at all.
Q: How does the dental implant feel? Does it feel natural? Is it easier? Does it feel like nothing’s missing there anymore?
A: It feels a little bit different because I have to floss differently because I might get food stuck in there sometimes. I mean you always get food stuck in there, but with implants, you have to get underneath the tooth because it’s not really real, but it pretty much feels normal.
Q: Are you proud of your decision that you decided to get a dental implant done?
A: Yes, I am, because now I don’t have holes where my two teeth are supposed to be.
Q: Awesome. Overall, would you say you had a good experience?
A: I had a great experience here. All my friends in Willow Park, Aledo, Weatherford, and Azle, I highly recommend Dr. Kovach and Trinity River Oral Surgery.
