Q: Start by introducing us and telling us where you live.
A: My name is Becky, and I currently live in Burleson, Texas.
Q: Becky, why did you come to Dr. Kovach’s practice?
A: I visited Dr. Kovach’s practice in the spring of this year because I had a vertically fractured, or split, tooth, and I needed to have it removed and start the process of putting in a dental implant.
Q: What happened that led you to have this damaged tooth?
A: I’m sorry, say again?
Q: What happened that led you to damaging the tooth?
A: Oh, it’s hard to say. Typically, vertically fractured teeth are weakened because they have maybe large cavities or large restorations, and there’s the impact of time and lots of chewing on these teeth sometimes, and they just split. It wasn’t any one particular thing. I did just notice having pain when I ate and sometimes even continuous pain, and being a dentist myself, I kind of knew what was going on.
Q: And, how were you feeling when you first came in? Were you nervous?
A: When I first went into Dr. Kovach’s office, I was not nervous. I have a fairly high pain threshold, and I knew what was going to happen, and Dr. Kovach had come highly recommended by another specialist in the area, and frankly, I was looking forward to having the relief of pain that would come with having the tooth extracted.
Q: And, tell us a little bit about the procedure itself.
A: The procedure was, I think first and foremost, just about the most painless thing it could have been. Dr. Kovach’s anesthetic technique was very good. My tooth and the surrounding area was completely anesthetized. Dr. Kovach explained everything he was doing. I found the procedure to be very easy and quick.
Q: And, tell us a little bit about your recovery from the procedure.
A: My recovery from the extraction was . . . well, it must have been pretty good because I don’t really remember it. I don’t remember having any pain; I didn’t have any swelling. I had normal bleeding, which was well controlled with Dr. Kovach’s post-op instructions, so all in all, very quick and easy recovery.
Q: Excellent. And, tell us what you like about Dr. Kovach. As a dentist, there are probably certain things you look for when you’re looking for a specialist in this field, so tell us a little bit about why Dr. Kovach met those needs.
A: There are so many things to like about Dr. Kovach. There are the traditional characteristics that I think most patients look for, including do they seem to care about you? Are they compassionate? Are they patient? Do they cause as little pain as possible? Do they give good instructions? Are they professional? And then on top of that, because I am a dentist, I look for other things. I can assess general knowledge, I can assess skills, I can assess the appearance of the office to Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, and I found every one of those squares to be checked in Dr. Kovach’s office.
Q: And, tell us about the staff here.
A: Dr. Kovach’s staff is wonderful. I have encountered probably two people at the front desk — very friendly, very helpful. I have encountered probably another three or so dental assistants, and to a person, they are all extremely professional, very caring, very sweet, very competent, and I think he has assembled himself just a fabulous dental team.
Q: Perfect. And, what would you say to someone who needs to have a similar procedure to be done? What can they expect? Like if someone needed an implant placed.
A: I would expect them to have a very positive experience. Frankly, there’s no way to have as complicated a dental procedure as a surgical extraction and an implant without some discomfort, but trust that this will be at a minimum with Dr. Kovach, that he will care for you well — so concerned — even check with you after the procedure to make sure that you’re doing okay, and offer any and all support that he possibly can to ensure a good recovery.
Q: If you had a friend that needed an implant placed, what would you tell them to expect from this practice?
A: I would tell my friend who might also need a surgical extraction and a possible implant that Dr. Kovach is really the dentist he or she would want to see. He has extensive training. He’s very chilled technique-wise. He can limit the discomfort as much as possible. He will explain everything to you. He will give you great post-operative care instructions. He will check on you afterward, and I really can’t think of a better person to do this procedure than Dr. Kovach. If I had friends and family that needed oral surgery near Fort Worth, TX, I would absolutely recommend this practice. He’s one of the finest oral surgeons that I’ve ever encountered.
